 Hill Towns

Towns were built on the tops of hills for protection. A few have become just tourist sites. We went to some which are places where people live and work.

The towns have narrow streets, often with lots of steps. Here is a major street intersection in one of the hill towns. Note the fountain. Not easily visible are the metal rails for setting water containers on. The overflow goes out to a rinse basin for laundry. The portion on the right with the sloped edge is the area for washing clothes.

The main street through another hill town. The road starts at a gate in the city wall and continues to the top of the hill ending at the doorway of the village church

The village of Eze is the most visited of the hill towns.
